I own property in Secret Beach. I’m thinking of starting construction soon, but I’m curious on how the short term rental market is? Is it busy enough yet or do you think waiting a couple years to let S Beach build up more popularity?

Dennis, I normally like your videos about Belize..... However, I'm disappointed that you said you wouldn't recommend Corozal. My wife and I are having a home built there as we speak, and we love it there. The warm, friendly, people, slow paced lifestyle, and proximity to Mexico, if we choose to shop at familiar places that we have in the USA. You probably could've worded it differently...... It's on the list for a reason, don't you think? Not everyone wants that fast paced lifestyle that exists on Ambergris Caye.

Good morning, Dennis 😇 Moving to Belize is my future dream, but it just feels like my dream is getting harder to achieve with all the craziness in DC. I 🙏 that I will be paying the land off at the end of the year and start building next year, but it truly is my dream to live outside of America.

Hey Dennis, question about the property tax amount for that Punta Azul South third row lot. You say the taxes are $100US on it. My third row lot, directly across the road from that one, is $225US per year (as is my beachfront lot). Can you shed light on how those values are determined and why there is such a dramatic difference between lots that are pretty much identical and have the same value? It's like the town council just randomly comes up with the tax amounts. Is there any procedures for contesting the tax so that it can be revalued to be in line with the other properties? It's extremely frustrating paying property taxes when I know of other properties, with million dollar+ homes, that are paying less.

Hey Dennis I also agree with the great info. It’s a beautiful diverse little island. Hard to get the vibe and lifestyle in just a few days of the area. We stayed far South for a couple weeks , in the middle several times, always ended up at the Secret beach area. That’s why we built there . I would recommend visiting for weeks or over time months to get the feel of an area to move to. All beautiful just totally different vibes

I stayed at El Norte my first trip there for exactly the reasons you mention in this video. I wanted to be close to the properties I own in Punta Azul South so I could easily get to them as well as get a feel for the area. It definitely opened my eyes to the 'challenges' involved with living way up there. Mostly in regards to shopping for daily food supplies, etc. While it is extremely beautiful up there that also comes with pretty extreme hurdles to overcome. My second trip there I stayed at Aqua Vista just south of the bridge. Completely different experience. It's convinced me, at least until much more development takes place way up north, I'll be staying within walking distance (for me that's a couple miles or so) of town. I'm holding the Punta Azul properties for now and will either flip them later on down the road or end up building something small if that area gets developed enough to where daily living wouldn't be so challenging up there.

This is a great video. I like the philosophy of discussing different strategies on how to lower cost of living while living abroad. My wife and I are pretty set up and have interest in Belize. i would like to pick your brain for an analysis of our situation if you don't mind. If it wouldnt be a hassle

I'd say you are right on some items but, for example, owning your own boat is actually more expensive in that you need a license which is quite difficult to get. I can use my boat license from Canada in the United States but not Belize. So you end up having to hire a captain when you want to go out in your own boat. Food and imported beverages are much more expensive, unless you change your diet from aged steaks to chicken. Seafood should be plentiful but hard to get fresh. It is usually frozen. Vegetables are fresh and full of flavor and a decent price when bought from local vendors. Dairy is pretty good but local cheese not so good. Bread and other bakery products are monotonous and taste the same whether it is bread or croissant. Housing can be less, if you are happy with a small house. Maintenance of the property is less as are taxes. Electricity is more expensive and you will most likely have a septic system for sewage and a cistern for fresh water. Transportation is not comparable. In the States and Canada you usually have a large luxury vehicle. In Belize you have a golf cart, if you live on the islands. Imported vehicles are very expensive as are used vehicles. The same goes for all appliances, etc.

My wife and I love Belize but what if we needed a small income. What are you suggestions for the average person in their 40s to create a small income after moving to Belize.

Just last week was at Sunset Palace and thought Wow look at that place. Very impressive looking. And the water out front. Perfect sand, blue water..... From where I walked in the water from Sunset, I bet you could walk out 300 yards from the shore
